Council proclaims April as Arts, Culture and Health Month and highlights city public-art and garden initiatives

The City Council on March 25 unanimously proclaimed April 2025 as Arts, Culture and Health Month, a city-sponsored recognition led by the Public Services Department.
Director of Public Services Sabrina Chavez presented the proclamation and described local arts initiatives including the utility-box art program (wrapping 20 utility boxes with artwork downtown and at the Civic Center), tile-art park projects at Enchanted Hills Park and Copper Creek Park, a rock mural, and a public art mural at Copper Creek. Chavez also said the city’s public art program was established in 2019 and is funded in part by a public-art development impact fee and private sponsorships.
Chavez highlighted the city’s Grow Perris program (launched 2016) that supports 26 gardens, school garden partnerships and an upcoming health fair (April 5) where arts and culture will be prominently featured. Miguel Vasquez, representing the Arts and Health Collective and Riverside County partners, spoke in support and described the county’s Arts and Health Collective as an initiative of Riverside University Health System public health and the Healthy Cities Network.
Mayor Michael Vargas presented the proclamation, thanked staff and county partners and invited the community to upcoming events including an artists’ mixer and the mayor’s art contest planned for April. The council took a photo with county representatives and staff after the proclamation.
