The superintendent said the candidate has 28 years of experience in education and holds a doctorate in educational leadership innovation from Arizona State University.
Board President Carrillo moved approval of the consent item to appoint Pombo; the motion was seconded and approved by voice vote. After the vote, Dr. Pombo addressed the board, saying she was "very thankful for this opportunity" and that she looks forward to continuing work on student-outcomes-focused governance in Creighton.
In presenting the candidate, district officials cited Pombo's local experience in the district, her role implementing the Data Wise process, reorganizing the coaching model, overseeing a science curriculum adoption and supporting student-outcome governance work. The superintendent and multiple board members offered congratulatory remarks after the vote.
The board did not attach conditions to the appointment in the public record. District staff said the selection followed the district's internal screening and interview process and that formal onboarding would follow district human-resources procedures.
The appointment replaces the district-level instructional leadership role vacated earlier; board members framed the hire as continuity for curriculum and coaching work already underway in the district.
Dr. Pombo introduced family members who attended the meeting and thanked principals, coaches and other instructional staff. Board members and the superintendent praised her experience and signaled expectations that she will continue the district's current strategies on coaching and curriculum supports.
