Library Manager Danielle Whittington told trustees the Corona City Library has received signage and five Culture City sensory kits to support a sensory‑inclusive rollout, and she reviewed a slate of National Library Week events and a planned 1 Legacy organ‑donation information booth.
Whittington said the Culture City materials—five kits (four kept at the children’s desk and one at the adult desk), signage and sensory bags—are available for checkout. Each bag contains fidget toys, sensory glasses that reduce brightness, noise‑dampening headphones and a feelings card to help nonverbal patrons communicate. Whittington said staff wipe the headphones between uses and that weighted lap pads are available at the adult desk; demand suggests the library may acquire an additional lap pad for the children’s area.
The library’s National Library Week schedule includes a “Decades of Discovery” movie marathon, a family sock hop, a tie‑dye maker activity (scheduled for Wednesday from 3–5 p.m.), an 80s‑themed story time and an adult “millennial prom” event. Whittington said a Heritage Room exhibit on technology and other decade artifacts will run during the week. She also noted the library will host 1 Legacy ambassadors for organ and tissue donation information on March 31 and will have a display throughout April for National Donate Life Month.
Whittington also reported on incidents and collection concerns: staff recorded a single small incident involving drugs or drug paraphernalia during the reporting period and said one parent raised a materials concern about books by author Sarah J. Maas. After review and reference to the library’s collection development policy, staff decided to keep the teen‑targeted series in the teen area to avoid moving teen titles to adults and potentially exposing teens sooner to adult works.
Trustees asked about the number of Culture City kits (Whittington confirmed five) and about feedback from the first person who checked out a kit; Whittington said the person appeared to use the kit successfully. Trustees also heard that the Friends group still had 30 tickets left for an upcoming historical author brunch and were reminded of other city events such as a Music and Arts Festival and guided hikes organized by the Community Services Department.
There were no public speaker cards or written comments on these items at the meeting.
