Kane County approves surplus-property auction, including seized vehicle

The Kane County Commission on March 25 approved a list of surplus county property to be sold via a sheriff's auction scheduled between April 3 and April 10. The motion passed unanimously.
Commissioner Cabejos described the usual range of items offered at the sheriff's auction, including vehicles and side-by-side recreational units. Staff said auction details are published in the local paper and that bids will be collected through the posted window. A seized 1998 International vehicle that had been forfeited after a criminal conviction was noted; staff said state procedures govern disposition of some forfeited property and that mileage on that vehicle was listed at 69,866.
Staff said the county sometimes offers trade-ins or a minimum bid, and that they were keeping the auction list open to add items if needed. The motion approved the list presented and authorized adding items offline as required.
Next steps: county staff will publish the auction notice, collect bids and follow state procedures for disposition of forfeited assets where required.
