The Town of Lakeville Conservation Commission voted March 25 to waive the application fee and pay for the newspaper advertisement associated with a Clark Shores project intended to reduce pollutant inflow to Long Pond.
Commission members described the project as installation of permeable reactive barriers in roadside trenches designed to capture oil and other pollutants before they enter the pond. The project was linked in the meeting record to an MVP (Municipal Vulnerability Preparedness) grant and other state funding that must be spent by June 30.
A commissioner moved that the commission waive the RDA fee and pay for the applicant’s advertising costs; the motion was seconded and approved by voice vote. The meeting record indicates the commission agreed to cover the identified advertising cost ($75) and to waive the fee; the precise amount of the fee was not confirmed in the hearing and was recorded as not specified.
Commissioners said they support initiatives that implement recommendations from vulnerability and water-quality studies but asked follow-up questions about who will maintain permeable reactive barriers and how long-term maintenance would be funded. One member said the state grant money being used should cover follow-up for monitoring wells and short-term maintenance but suggested the commission ask the implementing organization for a written maintenance plan.
The commission also agreed to review any RDA that follows and sign the required paperwork after the ad is placed.
