Council approves BCDC funding of $125,000 for Magnolia Musical Theatre’s summer production

Chelsea Jimenez (city staff) told council the request was tentatively approved by the BCDC board and requires two public hearings and two council actions; this meeting completed the second required city council hearing and vote. The production is scheduled to run June 1 through Aug. 16. Ray, a Magnolia board president, and board members in the audience described the project as a community attraction that brings economic activity to local restaurants and businesses and said the group will continue fundraising.
Council members thanked Magnolia organizers for their work and noted the funding supports community arts programs that also drive local economic activity. The council opened the public hearing; no public comments were offered.
Action: Motion to approve Resolution 2025‑15 (use of BCDC funds) carried unanimously (6–0), authorizing $125,000 in funding for the Magnolia Musical Theatre project for FY2024–25.
