Fair Lawn moves forward on River Road design guidelines and reaffirms Main Street management corporations

The Fair Lawn Mayor and Council on March 25 adopted ordinances updating the River Road and Broadway Special Improvement Districts and reaffirmed Fairlawn Main Street, Inc. as the districts' management corporation.
During public comment Pamela Coles asked whether the River Road ordinance extended the district; borough staff explained the action was an annual update to address recent lot-and-block merges and to continue using the existing management corporation, Fairlawn Main Street, Inc. The River Road ordinance was adopted on final reading.
Separately, Ryan (a Fairlawn Main Street representative) and other presenters described a forthcoming design-guidelines project. The borough has contracted LRK to work with the borough, Fairlawn Main Street and the planning board to develop design guidelines for River Road. The guidelines are intended to provide standards for aesthetics and help reviewers and developers when projects come before the planning board; River Road was chosen as the first focus area because Radburn already has its own guidelines and the borough aims to move more quickly on River Road using lessons learned.
Council and staff said the design-guidelines project will include outreach and that staff will circulate implementation strategy notes to council members in the coming weeks.
Ending: The River Road and Broadway SID ordinances are now adopted; the LRK contract for River Road design guidelines is in place and staff will follow up with a public engagement and implementation schedule.
