City honors Michi's Tacos as March 'Business in Action'; owners describe growth from carneceria

The Lake Elsinore City Council recognized Michi's Tacos as the March 2025 “Business in Action,” presenting the owners with a certificate and a marketing spotlight from the city’s economic development program.
Why it matters: The recognition highlights a local small business’ role in downtown revitalization and in community service programs such as food drives and youth initiatives.
David DeVries, the city’s economic development manager, said the free recognition program provides marketing resources including a video, press release and placement on the city’s business web pages. DeVries said Michi’s began inside a meat market in May 2019 and later moved downtown and into other locations including Diamond Stadium and Menifee.
Owners Herman and Carol Herrera accepted the award and credited their staff and community support for the expansion. Carol Herrera said the business “centered everything that we did around people,” noting policies such as preparing food from scratch and community-focused programs. The owners told the council they plan additional expansion, including a new brunch concept in Temecula.
The city noted Michi’s partnerships with local nonprofits and its awards from community organizations. The recognition will be featured on the city’s economic development channels and social media.
