Commissioners authorize temporary gravel parking behind courthouse using commissioner use-tax funds

Wagoner County commissioners approved a plan March 10 to place a compacted gravel base in the fenced area behind the courthouse to create temporary parking for employees and county vehicles.
Commissioners discussed leaving the existing fence and gate in place, moving trailers currently stored behind the building and using commissioner use-tax funds for the initial gravel base. The board expects to revisit longer-term surfacing (asphalt) and gate/access controls later. A commissioner volunteered the county’s equipment for grading and compaction; the board agreed to solicit a low bid for aggregate delivery and to compact and open the area for parking after materials are placed.
Why it matters: The project aims to move county fleet and trailers out of prime courthouse parking, free up spaces for the public and provide a near-term improvement to parking and vehicle staging for county departments.
Action: Motion to fund initial gravel base from commissioner use-tax account passed by roll call. Staff will arrange material delivery and compaction and return with a cost estimate for more permanent surfacing options if desired.
