Council members reviewed a list of real properties proposed for tax or fee abatement that staff provided on Feb. 27, 2025. Ms. Matthews read the list aloud and noted several parcels (Terre Avenue, Bird Road, Cypress Knee, and others) that have been abated by the city for multiple years. A council member said the list appears different from the one approved last year and suggested the council should review and confirm roughly 52 entries before final action.
The council also scheduled upcoming budget work sessions. Members agreed to reconvene in two weeks to give time for review of the full budget materials; staff said they will present an Excel file showing two prior years, the current year and the proposed 2026 budget rather than printouts that would be too small to read. The next focused session on donations and the total budget was scheduled for a weekday evening at 7:30 p.m. following the council meeting; staff will invite organizations that requested donations and are expected to submit financials if they seek funding.
Staff said they have begun outreach to prior-year recipients (including Samaritan’s Shelter and food bank partners) and asked organizations to provide financials for council review. No abatement decisions or donation awards were made at the work session; councilmembers asked staff to provide the chief’s abatement list reconciliation and the requested financial documents ahead of the next meeting.
