Council committee moves $77,000 Project Bullhawk appropriation to full council

The Gallatin City Council Committee on March 25 voted to send ordinance 02503-15 to the full City Council. The ordinance would appropriate $77,000 from Project Bullhawk for engineering-division and planning-department expenses, including replacement survey equipment and a replacement vehicle for a zoning enforcement officer.
City staff said about $50,000 of the requested $77,000 would go to replace an outdated GPS data collector used for surveying. “We do have a surveyor that is on staff … we want to make sure he's got good equipment to work with,” said Brian Rose, who presented the request. Rose also said engineering purchased some surveying equipment in 2016 and that the data collector has become unreliable.
The remainder of the appropriation would be used to supplement the current vehicle-purchase budget for a replacement truck for the city's zoning enforcement officer. Rose said the department already had about $15,000 budgeted and was requesting an additional roughly $27,000 to make the purchase. He described the current vehicle as a “rust bucket” and said it is a 2009 model with about 12,000 miles.
Councilman Gervais moved that the ordinance be forwarded to the full council; Councilman Alexander seconded. The committee voted in favor and the ordinance was advanced to the full council for final consideration.
No final spending authorization was made at the committee meeting; the matter will return to the full City Council for adoption and any final appropriation vote.
