Senator Blasey (majority leader) introduced the resolution and read its text, saying the Senate "denounce[s] the planned satanic worship ritual" and called on Kansans to "promote unity, mutual respect, and the values that uphold our identity as 1 nation under God." The resolution text also urged Governor Laura Kelly to condemn the activity and its reported use of stolen property.
Several senators expressed support from the floor. Senator Thompson said he "couldn't articulate anything better than what the majority leader just said" and indicated he would support the resolution. Other senators, including Senator Klooz, voiced support and emphasized religious themes in their remarks.
Senator Blasey moved to declare an emergency and to adopt the resolution by voice vote; the motion carried on a voice vote and the resolution was adopted.
