Senator Kagan urges committee to adopt Senate version of 9-1-1 cybersecurity bill

Senate Bill 81, a cross-file concerning cybersecurity protections for 9-1-1 call centers, was presented to the House Judiciary Committee by Senator Cheryl Kagan.
Kagan told the committee 9-1-1 centers are “literally about life and death” and that Maryland must protect them from cyberattacks such as those that disrupted services elsewhere. She said the Senate had amended penalties and passed the measure and urged the House committee to find merit in the Senate version so both chambers could adopt the same text.
Kagan answered no substantive questions beyond noting the Senate “tweaked the penalties,” and she closed her testimony by thanking the committee. The committee did not take a vote at the hearing.
