Representatives for Senator Karen Lewis Young told the Environment and Transportation Committee that SB175 โ which would restrict certain corrugated stainless steel tubing (CSST) used for fuel gas piping and create a study group โ should conform to the House bill's language and leadership structure.
"The first is, the use of non conductive, as a term versus non arc resistant. We did some research, we do not believe that non conductive, will will actually accomplish the intent of the bill and that is to restrict the sale of CSST, corrugated stainless steel tubing," a staff member for Senator Lewis Young said. The presenters said the term "non arc resistant" already appears in state statute and better matches the bill's intent.
They identified a second difference: who would chair the work group the bill would create. The Senate version would make the Department of Labor chair the work group in consultation with the State Fire Marshal and the State Fire Prevention Commission, while the House version assigned the State Fire Prevention Commission the chair role in consultation with the Department of Labor. The sponsor's representative asked the committee to conform the Senate bill to the House approach.
