Kootenai County airport recommends Advanced ATC for tower services; contract to return for board approval

Kootenai County airport staff recommended Advanced ATC Inc. to provide air-traffic control tower services at Gaston Patterson Airport, and the county commissioners approved the award at the March 25 business meeting.
Kim Stevenson, presenting for the airport, said the airport solicited qualifications on Jan. 30 and received submissions from Serco, TowerTech and Advanced ATC. After reviewing the submissions, staff recommended Advanced ATC based on its familiarity with similar tower facilities and equipment, training capacity, simulator capability and favorable cost estimates for both six- and 12-month contract options.
Stevenson told the board Advanced ATC operates a simulator facility where airport-specific airspace and equipment can be programmed so the firm’s staff can rehearse operations before arriving on-site. She also said the firm meets or exceeds insurance and staffing requirements and participates in airspace development and noise mitigation discussions.
The board voted to select Advanced ATC; staff will return with a proposed contract for the board to execute.
