Perryton ISD board approves multiple teacher and staff contracts

PERRYTON — The Perryton ISD Board of Trustees approved multiple personnel contracts and minutes from prior meetings during its regular session, awarding teacher and staff contracts across elementary, junior-high and high-school campuses.

Board members voted to approve the minutes from prior meetings and then moved through a series of hiring and contract approvals, including the hiring of Arisa Joffus to a one-year certified teacher contract pending completion of her certification. District staff recommended Joffus after noting she had worked at Williams as a campus secretary and completed her degree and student teaching; Mr. Brown presented the recommendation, calling her “a homegrown teacher.”

The board approved grouped lists of contracts as presented on the meeting handouts: the page 102 recommendations, SSA group term and part‑time contracts (page 103), kindergarten term and noncertified contracts, and additional term and probationary contracts listed on pages 105–106. The Williams campus contracts were approved with a staff-noted correction discussed in closed session. The board approved Perry Junior High’s contracts on pages 108–109 with one exception: the contract for Brooke Hale was considered separately and approved with one abstention (6–0–1). High-school contracts on pages 110–111 were approved as amended after the board moved one employee, Tyler Laubach, from a noncertified contract to a probationary certified contract following his agricultural certification. The Louie Martin Alternative Education Center contracts (page 112) were also approved.

Votes recorded in the meeting transcript where tallies were announced show a string of unanimous outcomes on these personnel matters: multiple motions carried 7–0. The separate vote on the Perry Junior High contract for Brooke Hale was recorded as 6–0–1 (one abstention). Several other motions in the sequence were moved and seconded by board members in open session; where the transcript recorded names, Mr. VA made motions and Mrs. Trejalis seconded the motion for the meeting minutes.

The approvals covered probationary, term and noncertified teacher contracts and several part‑time positions shown on the board packet pages cited during the meeting. Where the packet indicated corrections discussed in closed session, the board approved the items as corrected. The board did not adopt additional policy changes or bind future budgets as part of these votes; the actions were limited to approving the listed contracts.

The board moved on after approving the personnel slate to consider Wright Elementary Phase 2 construction and budget items later in the agenda.
