The Woodford County Fiscal Court ratified the Budget and Finance Committee’s recommendations on the young and new farmer grant program, conditionally approving applications numbered 16, 22 and 26, permitting a parent or guardian to sign grant agreements for applicants under 18, and denying two applications received after the program deadline.
Budget and Finance reported it reviewed preliminary budgets and recommended conditional approval for three applicants in the young and new farmer grant program. The court formalized that recommendation on a motion by Squire Brown, seconded by Squire Varner. The court also approved the committee’s recommendation that when applicants are under 18, a parent or guardian may serve as the signatory on the grant agreement; that recommendation was adopted unanimously.
The committee reported two applications were submitted after the program deadline; the committee recommended denial of those late submissions and the court ratified that recommendation. The judge thanked the county clerk for communications with applicants and staff on the program.
Separately, the court ratified the committee’s earlier email approval of the first round of disbursements for the program by voice vote.
Court members emphasized the timeline for budget meetings and said the Budget and Finance Committee will continue meeting before each fiscal court meeting until the second reading of the county budget.
