The St. Francois County Commission approved a $19,826.62 repair and replacement order with ClearSpan Corporation for the county’s north salt shed after staff reported wind-related damage.
Jason, Road and Bridge supervisor, explained the structure sustained new damage during recent 50-mph wind events and that the affected section is smaller than the earlier replacement. He said ClearSpan recommended a partial enclosure to reduce direct wind into the door and advised quarterly checks and strap tensioning to avoid seam failures.
Jason said ClearSpan’s warranty requires the company to install repairs for the tarp warranty to apply; if the county installed a replacement tarp itself, the vendor would not cover that tarp under warranty. Staff noted the county’s insurance deductible for such claims has increased from $10,000 to $100,000, making preventive steps and vendor installation more attractive to preserve warranty coverage.
The commission discussed options to reduce wind intrusion, including partial enclosures and temporary barriers during storms. Jason described prior temporary measures, such as placing concrete blocks in front of doors when severe weather was forecast.
A motion to approve the ClearSpan quote for $19,826.62 passed by voice vote.
