Board approves $193,000 in furniture purchases for jail and administration building

INTERNATIONAL FALLS, Minn. — The Koochiching County Board on March 25 approved two vendor proposals to furnish the county’s new business center and jail renovation, totaling $135,170.52 and $57,756.88 respectively.
Procurement details
County staff said the larger $135,170.52 proposal followed a vendor design process with the sheriff’s office to identify specialty furniture that was not part of the original bid package. The second purchase, $57,756.88, came through NASPO/Herman Miller contracts and will furnish the remaining offices and inmate areas. Staff told commissioners both purchases were budgeted within the overall renovation project and that the project remains under the overall construction budget.
Board action
The board voted to approve both purchases at the meeting. Commissioners said the purchases were necessary to finish the project and that the combined cost remains within the total budget allocated for the facility work.
Why it matters
The furniture purchases complete outfitting for the jail addition, administrative offices and public business center. Staff said the chosen vendors and product specifications were selected to meet security, durability and office‑use requirements for the renovated spaces.
