County infrastructure update: construction continues on Ronald Reagan, East Wilco Highway and other bond projects

Robert Day, senior director of infrastructure for Williamson County, presented the March road bond construction status report to the Commissioners Court on March 25.

Day highlighted active design and construction across multiple precincts. In Precinct 2, Liberty Hill Bypass is expected to finish later in the year; work on Ronald Reagan included forming abutments for a bridge and placing concrete. In Precinct 3, Sand Bass Road crew poured concrete for a shared-use path. Work on Wyngs Springs (a partnership with the city of Round Rock) included steel formwork and bridge-cap preparations using form liners to give a rock-like finish to concrete features. East Wilco Highway interchange work (Precinct 4) included decking placed on steel girders and retaining-wall construction; Day described the structural tying of concrete decks to steel girders via shear studs.

Day also noted coordination with cities, citing Round Rock and partnerships on Old Settlers Boulevard and County Road 112. He said the county’s unified road program and intergovernmental partnerships help keep projects moving despite statewide demands on TxDOT resources.

The court approved a staff recommendation to adjust paperwork language on a TxDOT advance funding agreement item and accepted several engineering and construction contract items as listed on the agenda. Commissioners and staff noted ongoing procurements for utility relocation and related services tied to bond-program projects and said requests for proposals were in process to select firms for upcoming work.
