Granite Falls superintendent reports enrollment, facilities upgrades and new visitor-badging and bus systems ahead of school year

The Granite Falls School District superintendent gave the board an operational update ahead of the first day of school, reporting an enrollment projection that officials will confirm at the district’s fourth-day count and outlining several facility and technology upgrades completed over the summer.
The superintendent said kindergarten capture remains an area to monitor and that the district has seen an increase in high-school students — mentioning about 50 more 12th-grade students in system lists prior to the final enrollment count. "We look pretty good," the superintendent said, while noting counts remain a moving target until the fourth-day census.
Summer maintenance work, the superintendent said, included installation of three water-filling stations at Granite Falls High School, near-completion of commercial ovens for the high school culinary program, stadium-bathroom repairs and HVAC-filter replacements. The district also completed siding work at Granite Falls High School funded through a 2022 levy, the superintendent said.
On technology and safety systems, the district launched a new visitor-badging system that requires a government-issued ID to enter buildings after the first day of school. The superintendent described the badge as a printed sticky label for daytime visitors and said the district will require badges to help staff and students "see who’s coming and going." The district also launched a transportation app for families through an interdistrict cooperative with Lake Stevens that allows parents to see real-time bus arrival information.
The superintendent said the district has implemented Swank K-12 streaming to centralize and vet classroom streaming services and to prevent use of personal streaming subscriptions in class. The change is tied to board policy and the district’s teaching-and-learning vetting processes.
Other items included a "School of Rock" back-to-school event planned for 7:30 a.m. at Granite Falls High School's Performing Arts Center the next day; a legislative forum scheduled for Oct. 23 in Everett; fall-sports start dates; and continued classroom moves and maintenance work. The superintendent thanked staff and volunteers for summer events and rollout tasks.
