Staff said they salvaged equipment from wrecked vehicles and achieved $39,000 in savings on two administrative cars repurposed for patrol, and requested permission to apply those savings to the new-vehicle overage: "We would like to take this 5,000 and use the 39,000 to cover this $5,000 that was that is over," the chief said.
Council members questioned the procedural requirement to return when an overage occurs; staff explained that overages must be brought back to council for approval. The request was discussed but no final vote was recorded at the work session.
