Councilmembers press parks on Brentwood golf course maintenance; parks says $1 million allocated

Councilmembers pressed Parks Department staff March 4 about maintenance and amenities at Brentwood Golf Course, a city-operated facility council members say serves veterans, schools and nearby residents.

Councilmember Freeman asked Parks how the city chooses which courses receive maintenance investments and noted that some city-run courses — including Brentwood — show uneven upkeep compared with others. Darryl Jones, representing the Parks Department, said rounds at Brentwood have increased and staff are finalizing a new lease that will add and replace golf carts within three to four months, which the department expects will ease wait times and address performance problems.

Jones said parks tries to keep green fees reasonable so courses remain accessible and that maintenance strategies are formed with affordability and sustainability in mind. Councilmember Pittman and others said the special committee on parks previously allocated $1 million to Brentwood for improvements; Pittman said she was working with parks on a plan to turn the surrounding area into a regional park and would continue to press for consistent standards across city courses.
