Cumberland Theater requests $12,000; expanding programming and youth offerings

The representative said the theater has expanded programming without raising its county request by running shows in repertory, adding two mainstage productions this year (raising the annual slate from eight to ten) and growing youth programming (two youth shows plus a new elite program for older youth). The theater also continues Shakespeare in the Park in partnership with the Gilchrist Gallery, provides school-morning performances that reach local students and is launching a play-workshopping program for Maryland playwrights that includes readings and staged productions.
The representative said the theater paid all actors and staff as a regional professional theater and reported more than 10,000 public ticket sales in 2024 plus an additional 2,500–3,000 tickets served to local schools. The representative credited downtown revitalization and local partnerships with helping attract artists and audiences. Commissioners thanked the theater representative; no formal vote was taken.
