Maury commissioners appoint Robert Plagman to fill District 2 school board vacancy

The Maury County Commission appointed Robert Plagman to the District 2 seat on the Maury County Board of Education on March 17, 2025, following a contested selection process that drew multiple public speakers and five nominations by commissioners.
The vacancy followed the resignation of Frank Bellamy; under the county process, District 2 commissioners Patty Hollingsworth and Eric Pravetti led the nomination period. Commissioners considered four nominees at the final vote: Carrie Powers (a former Maury County school board member), Daryl Allsy, Robert Plagman, and Darrell (Daryl) Alshy (nominations and public comments used the spellings in submitted materials). The commission held successive rounds of voting: because no candidate reached the required majority on the first ballot, the commission eliminated the lowest vote-getter and conducted additional ballots until Plagman secured a majority.
During public comment, the three finalists and community endorsers addressed commissioners. Carrie Powers cited prior board experience (2014–2018) and said she could "hit the ground running" on the current budget season. Robert Plagman described his project-management background and Navy service and framed his candidacy around operational accountability and support for teachers. Supporters in the audience urged commissioners to select Plagman, citing experience, leadership and community engagement.
Commissioner Eric Pravetti emphasized that whoever is appointed will have to run in 2026 to retain the seat, noting the short remainder of the term. Commissioner Howard said he would follow the will of the voters in his district and announced support for Plagman.
After multiple ballots the commission recorded 12 votes for Robert Plagman in the final round and declared him appointed to the District 2 seat. Plagman thanked the commission and reminded the body that the appointment covers the remainder of the current term, with the seat subject to election in 2026.
