Tualatin proclaims April Arbor Month; city recognizes youth and community tree efforts

The Tualatin City Council on March 24 adopted a proclamation designating April 2025 as Arbor Month and recognized winners of local youth poster and community photography contests.
Emma Gray, chair of the Tualatin Parks Advisory Committee (TPARK), and student member Kosey Slider presented events planned for Arbor Month and announced contest winners. Gray introduced the grade K-2 poster winner, Joelle Keck, and the grades 3-5 winner, Brooklyn Richardson. The first-place winner of the Tualatin Trees community photo contest was Diana Fitz; second and third places went to Julie McGuire and Tim McGuire, respectively.
The presentation described recurring Arbor Month events including a photography contest, kids poster contest, volunteer tree plantings, Earth Day activities, library story times and scavenger hunts. TPARK highlighted the educational and environmental benefits of trees, citing cleaner air, noise reduction, climate-moderating effects and habitat for wildlife.
TPARK noted that the City of Tualatin is recognized by the National Arbor Day Foundation's Tree City USA program and that that certification reflects local commitments such as a tree board, a tree care ordinance, a community forestry program with a budget, and the Arbor Month observance. The proclamation was introduced and adopted by council on March 24, 2025.
Winners were invited to the dais to accept awards and framed posters, and TPARK thanked volunteers and community partners for ongoing tree stewardship work.
