TWC staff served as resource witnesses on multiple House bills; agency scheduled additional testimony

Texas Workforce Commission governmental relations staff reported that agency employees served as resource witnesses this week for several House committee hearings and that TWC will provide additional resource witness testimony on other bills pending in the House.
Michael Britt of governmental relations told commissioners that TWC provided resource witness testimony before the House Committee on Trade, Workforce and Economic Development and the subcommittee on workforce on House Bill 322 by Rep. Guillen regarding the JET program; House Bill 1147 by Rep. Gomez, relating to a soft-skills pilot; and House Bill 1154 by Rep. Gomez, relating to a skilled labor task force for certain local workforce development boards. Britt said Mary York served as the agencyresource witness for those three bills.
Britt also reported that the agency will provide resource witness testimony the next day on three TWC legislative proposals: HB 2768 (confidentiality of fraud detection and prevention), with Jason Stelinski as resource witness; HB 2791 (VR purchasing), with Tammy Martin as resource witness; and HB 3260 (industry-recognized apprenticeship program), with Mary York as resource witness. He added that the agency will testify on HB 2678 (apprenticeship for IT-related state positions) and that Mr. Serna would be the agency resource witness. Reagan Miller was identified as the agency resource witness for HB 1117 (governortask force on governance of early childhood education and care) before the House Public Education subcommittee on academic education.
Britt concluded by offering to answer questions; none were raised by commissioners.
