Ada County commissioners approved 15 tax cancellations March 25, including an adjustment described by county staff as a settlement with Walmart.
The assessor’s office presented the list of 15 tax adjustments and noted the Walmart matter had been a multi-year issue that was resolved without litigation. The county treasurer clarified that Walmart had paid the 2023 tax bill in full and that the second half of the tax year remained due in June; the county will process the cancellations and send Walmart a notice for the second half. The treasurer said second-half notices will be mailed in early May.
A commissioner described the matter as part of the property valuation appeal process, explaining that taxpayers may appeal assessed value and that the appeal resolves the value — not the tax payment process. County staff said the cancellations were processed through the regular adjustment and appeals procedures and that the county is otherwise caught up on tax adjustments.
The board approved the cancellations by voice vote and authorized the chair to sign the documents on behalf of the board.
