Texas Workforce Commission approves FY2024 annual and supplemental reports, amends commissioner message

The Texas Workforce Commission on a unanimous vote approved its fiscal year 2024 annual and supplemental reports for submission to the governor and Texas Legislature and adopted an amended commissionermessage.

The reports were presented by Amy Landrum, director of communications, who told commissioners the annual report was produced in compliance with Texas Labor Code section 301.065 and that the supplemental report includes statutorily required program information such as College Credit for Heroes, the Skills Development Fund, Trade Adjustment Assistance and Works Wonders Texas Purchasing from People with Disabilities. "The annual report has been produced in compliance with Texas Labor Code section 301.065 for submission to the governor and Texas Legislature pending commission approval," Landrum said.

The commission's approval came after one commissioner offered a rewrite of the commissioner's message. The commissioner said the revised message aimed to better connect the report's statutory elements with the agencyimpact on Texans in the workforce, noting the agency serves some 15.5 million people. After pausing to allow other commissioners to review the suggested language, the commission voted to amend the staff draft and adopt the modified commissioner message.

Chairman Daniel called for a motion to approve the reports as recommended by staff. A motion to approve the annual and supplemental reports was moved and seconded; the amendment to the commissioner's message was offered, discussed briefly, and the amended motion passed unanimously. Commissioners also thanked Landrum and staff for producing the reports.

The annual report and supplemental report will be submitted to the governor and Legislature as required by statute.

The commission also noted a legislative report and other agenda items would be taken up later in the meeting.
