The Pinellas County School Board voted 7–0 on March 20, 2025 to repeal several legacy property and asset-management policies and to adopt a consolidated policy, Policy 7,300, titled “Accountability and Responsibility for School Board Property.”
Nut graf: District staff said the consolidation removes outdated procedures from policy, aligns local thresholds with Florida Department of Financial Services guidance, and reduces administrative burdens for schools while maintaining mandatory tracking of district property.
According to the staff presentation, the revised policy increases the fixed‑asset capitalization threshold from $1,000 to $5,000 and adjusts which classes of equipment must be tagged and inventoried. Staff recommended eliminating the annual inventory requirement for uncapitalized technology items and items valued at less than $1,000 while maintaining centralized monitoring and reporting during the annual inventory process. The change reflects state financial-management guidance, staff said.
Board members had no formal amendments during the second reading; the motion to approve was made by Mrs. Peters and seconded by Mrs. Long. The motion passed unanimously.
Ending: District finance staff will implement updated tagging and inventory procedures and bring annual inventory reports to the board as required by the new policy.
