Commissioners proclaim National Public Health Week and April as Child Abuse Prevention Month

Fremont County commissioners proclaimed the week of April 7–13, 2025, as National Public Health Week and declared April 2025 as Child Abuse Prevention and Awareness Month during a public meeting. Both proclamations were approved unanimously.

Public Health staff — including Public Health Director Paula Buzer, Supervisor RN Cheyenne McGinnis and Finance Administrator Autumn Deaver — presented the National Public Health Week proclamation, noting the 30th anniversary of the observance and emphasizing the role of public health in disease prevention, emergency response and community resilience. The commissioners praised the department’s outreach and engagement work.

Members of the county’s Family Assessment and Response (FAR) team presented the Child Abuse Prevention Month proclamation and described local outreach efforts. The proclamation highlighted pinwheels and blue ribbons as national awareness symbols, urged residents to report suspected abuse to Fremont County Department of Human Services or by calling the statewide hotline (recorded in the proclamation), and asked citizens to support policies and programs that strengthen child wellbeing.

Motions to adopt both proclamations passed by unanimous roll call votes. For National Public Health Week, the motion to proclaim April 7–13 passed with Commissioners Bell, McFaul and Grantham voting aye. The motion proclaiming April as Child Abuse Prevention and Awareness Month also passed unanimously.
