Adams County approves $28.4 million amendment to Mortenson contract for Riverdale Regional Park improvements

The Adams County Board of Commissioners approved Amendment 2 on March 25 to the contract with Mortenson (MA Mortenson Company), adding $28,399,780 to the guaranteed maximum price (GMP) for Riverdale Regional Park improvements.
Byron Fanning, director of Parks, Open Space and Cultural Arts, said the full GMP for the improvements — outdoor covered arena, midway, three barns and site infrastructure — totals approximately $43,400,000. Of that total, roughly $15,000,000 was previously approved as an early-release package on Nov. 19 to start initial work; the current amendment funds the remaining scopes described in staff’s presentation.
Fanning summarized that the amendment will fund the remaining construction work identified in the project study session. Commissioners thanked staff and described the project as restorative for the fairgrounds and supportive of agricultural events and community use; no substantive opposition or alternate options were raised at the meeting.
The board moved to approve the resolution as presented and the motion passed 5–0.
Fanning and commissioners noted that floodplain mitigation (the Brantner Gulch project) had been approved previously and is separate from this amendment; the Brantner Gulch work is intended to move parts of the fairgrounds out of the floodplain and reduce flood risk for the park and surrounding properties. The current amendment includes site infrastructure items such as Wi‑Fi that staff said will improve visitor and vendor experiences.
