County staff told supervisors that Iowa Utilities (recorded as “IUI Utilities Commission” in the meeting notice) will host an informational meeting on a proposed battery‑storage system in Kossuth County at 12:30 p.m. Thursday, April 3, in the Lakota Community Room; staff said the item will also appear on the board’s agenda next week. Several supervisors said they would review the notice and attend if available.
Supervisors also discussed the county’s solar ordinance work. Supervisor Amber said landowners are seeking clarity about leases and the county’s current moratorium; supervisors recalled the moratorium is scheduled to end in June. The board agreed to place a discussion about a draft solar ordinance on next week’s agenda so the supervisors can agree on scope and then select an attorney to prepare draft ordinance language. Amber and other supervisors asked to have a pre‑agenda discussion so everyone is aligned before the county selects counsel.
No ordinance language or attorney was selected at the meeting; supervisors directed staff to add a solar‑ordinance discussion and an attorney selection item to a future agenda and to forward the battery‑storage meeting notice to all supervisors for their awareness.
