Resident flags high‑pressure gas main near Depot, urges green space in Boulder Junction

A member of the public raised safety and planning concerns for Boulder Junction during the meeting’s public-participation period.

Travis (identified in the meeting as a resident and public commenter) told commissioners he discovered a high-pressure natural gas main running under Pearl Parkway near the train line and the Depot building. He said the main’s typical pressure is “around 450” PSI but that it can reach about 700 PSI at full capacity, and warned that a leak or collision in that location could create a dangerous situation. He said his building smelled of natural gas, which led him to investigate and speak with utility staff. He asked commissioners to keep that infrastructure in mind when planning the district.

Travis also recommended adding green space in the area he called “Block 2800,” a cluster of warehouses that includes former Boulder B-cycle space and sits between 30th and 303rd streets in his description. He said creating a pocket park would provide a pedestrian path that could draw people into Boulder Junction and provide visual connections to nearby hotels and transit amenities.

Staff confirmed the commenter’s location to ensure the record reflects the correct property; commissioners thanked him for the comment and noted staff will include his remarks in the meeting notes for commissioners who are not present.
