Why it matters: Board and administration officials said the work is part of an expanded capital plan funded through capital outlay certificates the district sold previously. Larson said the district issued about $32–33 million in capital outlay certificates that yielded roughly $36 million in cash, allowing the district to reorder priorities and add work without increasing the tax rate. "We are spending $30,000,000 at no cost to the taxpayer because it has taken out of capital outlay certificates," Larson said.
Board members and staff described the planned scope of work tied to the available funds: a 25,000-square-foot middle-school addition, 10 additional classrooms, expansion of the wrestling room and locker room, and expansion of the kitchen; staff also noted the earlier planned Berkman Valley Elementary project and that bids for other projects came in favorably, enabling the additional work.
