Upland proclaims April 2025 Child Abuse Prevention Month

The Upland City Council on March 24 presented a proclamation designating April 2025 as Child Abuse Prevention Month and invited a representative from the Children’s Network to accept the recognition.
Ashley Bookshire of the Children’s Network accepted the proclamation and summarized county data cited in remarks: staff said San Bernardino County received 31,061 referrals of suspected child abuse in 2024, of which 9,407 referrals originated from the city of Upland. Bookshire noted a range of protective-factor efforts and local partnerships — including Children’s Network, Children’s Fund and First 5 San Bernardino — that the organization said work to prevent child abuse and promote child well-being. Staff described a Blue Ribbon awareness campaign and an annual “Shine a Light on Child Abuse Prevention” award event as part of the month’s activities.
City remarks encouraged residents to participate in education and awareness events and thanked local child‑protection partners for their work. The proclamation was presented to the Children’s Network during the meeting’s presentations section.
