During the April 1 meeting, a Chamber representative told the council the Chamber has hired PJ Barnes as director of tourism. The representative said Barnes is from the area (born at Cumberland Medical Center, grew up in Cumberland County) and began work recently. The Chamber speaker said the region currently sees roughly $210,000,000 in indirect tourist spending and expressed confidence in future growth.
In the same report the chamber representative said Whataburger had submitted a site plan to the planning commission for a location across from Buc-ee's, next to Advance Auto. The representative said the plan will go through the planning commission process this month.
Ending The chamber representative encouraged council and community members to note the hiring and the pending site-plan review; no final action on the Whataburger plan occurred at the council meeting, which only relayed the chamber's notification.
