During the March 24 meeting the commission addressed two personnel items under other business. A City staff member identified in the transcript as “Mr. Boone” told commissioners he will retire effective the end of March. The retiree indicated it has been an honor to work with the commission and said interim arrangements are in place: City Attorney Ellen Osinock will fill in and handle duties in the short term.
Separately, staff reported that the vacancy left by Commissioner Scannone is being filled from the pool of alternates. James Bruce, who previously served as an alternate, is scheduled for a city council resolution at the April 1 council meeting to appoint him to the Planning Commission. If the council acts as anticipated, Bruce’s first day as a commissioner would be April 14, 2025. Staff said Bruce has followed commission issues and should be ready to begin participating when onboarded.
Commissioners thanked the retiring staff member for their service and discussed internal staffing adjustments. The transcript records staff noting they will work through how to cover the retiring staff person’s responsibilities and that interim arrangements will be communicated to the commission.
No formal personnel actions were taken during the March 24 commission meeting; the appointment of James Bruce to the commission remains subject to City Council action on April 1.
