East Penn students win scholarships, All‑State music slots and journalism honors; district lists upcoming events and job openings

At the March meeting Dr. Campbell reported a string of student recognitions and district announcements, naming two National Merit scholarship recipients, multiple History Day qualifiers, All‑State music ensemble members and journalism awards. "Daniel Whitmer has been selected as a winner of the National Merit Carpenter Technology Corporation scholarship in the amount of $2,500," Dr. Campbell said. William Zhang was also named a National Merit scholarship recipient (amount not specified in the meeting record).
Dr. Campbell said 16 Emmaus High School students participated in the regional History Day competition and nine have advanced to the Pennsylvania State competition in April at the University of Scranton. He listed by name the senior group exhibit and documentary participants advancing to states and named individual student finalists advancing in the senior documentary category.
The superintendent also announced All‑State music placements, including Vivian Zong and Brighton U (All‑State Orchestra); Clarism (All‑State Wind Ensemble); and Cameron Bauer and Marley Llewellyn (All‑State Concert Band). In journalism, Dr. Campbell said Ion Shaw was named the 2025 Pennsylvania Student Journalist of the Year and Shelby Ramirez, advisor to the school paper, received the 2025 Pennsylvania School Press Association journalism teacher of the year award.
Earlier in the meeting Emmaus High School SGA representative Lexi Howell summarized recent and upcoming student activities. "As of March 24, spring sports are officially in full split swing," Howell said, and she noted the EHS track and field team has a meet scheduled for March 25 and the boys lacrosse and boys tennis teams have started their seasons. Howell also announced student employment and participation opportunities: 15 summer maintenance positions (June 23–Aug. 15) with applications due April 4; four technology‑department summer positions (June 16–Aug. 8) with the same April 4 deadline; a senior sign sale with a discounted price if purchased by April 15; and a district summer camp guide.
Dr. Campbell reminded listeners that anyone with a bachelor's degree may apply to the guest-teacher program through the Carbon-Lehigh Intermediate Unit; applications via the CLIU site are due April 25, after which applicants are eligible to substitute in East Penn. The district also advertised upcoming school theater productions and an international fair scheduled at Emmaus High School on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
