Resident urges board to survey bullying after grandson experienced repeated incidents

A resident told the Jersey Shore Area School District board on March 24, 2025, that her grandson has experienced repeated bullying and asked the board to assess how widespread bullying is in the district and to pursue programs that encourage acceptance.
"Over the past year and a half, he's been physically pushed around, belittled, set up by others to get him in trouble," Beanie Pelicore said, describing incidents involving her grandson. She said the student'centered responses she and family members have received from some school personnel left the child feeling isolated and distressed. "He felt that everyone in his class hates him except for 1 or 2 others because he is, quote, different," she said.
Pelicore asked the board to take two actions: conduct an anonymous survey of students in grades 4 through 12 asking whether they have been bullied or witnessed bullying, and if results indicate need, examine programs other districts use to encourage kindness and prevent bullying.
Board members affirmed they had heard her concerns and reminded speakers of the district's chain-of-command for individual incidents; the principal had handled an immediate incident referenced by Pelicore and district officials said families should continue to work with building staff while the board considers districtwide steps if warranted.
