Council discussed objectives for improving city communications, including promoting the Encinitas app, producing regular externally focused video updates and standardizing branding across channels.
Members proposed regular concise videos available before council meetings and on the app, social media and the city website to highlight projects, spotlight employees and businesses, and explain how residents can report issues (graffiti, debris, etc.) through the app. Staff said an employee-focused monthly video already exists and that resources could be leveraged to produce an externally focused monthly video and to place consistent city branding on app and communications.
Council asked staff to ensure communications do not lengthen council meetings and to provide concise written summaries for quarterly objective updates. Staff agreed to develop a communications plan that includes branding guidelines and a distribution approach that links the video, app and other channels.
