Tecumseh North students present site-council projects to Shawnee Heights board

Tecumseh North Elementary School principal Katie Bivens and members of the school's sixth-grade leadership team presented a slideshow and video about site-council projects and school activities during the Shawnee Heights Board of Education meeting.

The presentation highlighted student-led initiatives including ceiling-tile artwork by sixth-graders, a 15-member sixth-grade leadership team that assists with morning community routines and PTO events, the newly purchased Panther Paul mascot costume funded through a foundation grant written by the school's music teacher, Mrs. Townsend, and planned facility enhancements such as banners over playground ventilation and classroom space reconfiguration.

Bivens said the leadership team helped create the presentation and video and that the school displays student work throughout the building. Students described a "college corner" program in which each teacher showcases a college with personal relevance; one student noted a connection to Butler County. The school also described a safety app called Stop It that staff have installed on phones to support communication during drills and emergencies.

Board members in attendance praised the students and the mascot. A board member complimented the presentation and the mascot, saying it was "always great to come back here" and that the students did a "great job." Bivens told the board the students had practiced questions and invited any further questions; none were raised.

The presentation concluded with applause from the board and attendees. Bivens said the video and slideshow would remain available for board members to review later.
