Budlong Pool excavation delayed after crews unearth an unrecorded culvert, city says

Director Moretti told the council on March 24 that demolition at the Budlong Pool site is complete and excavation was underway when crews exposed an unexpected culvert or large drain pipe feeding groundwater into the pool basin.
Providence Water inspected and found the flow is not from the public water system, Moretti said. The city's engineers plan to scope the aqueduct with a camera later in the week to locate the inlet and outlet and confirm the drainage source. Work to plug or repair the pipe and to dewater the site is under evaluation; the delay may add cost and jeopardize opening the pool this summer.
Council members asked for follow-up information and requested a short report after the scoping operation. Moretti said the dewatering has been done in compliance with DEM requirements and that the team will provide an update after the camera inspection.
