Commission to draft strategic‑plan input on Metro Green Line and city priorities

The Public Works and Sustainability Commission discussed the City Council’s upcoming strategic‑planning session (scheduled for April 29) and agreed to prepare a draft letter outlining commission priorities for Council consideration.

Commissioner Anderson proposed that the commission advise city leadership to consider how Measure M/Metro investments, public art opportunities, and utility and right‑of‑way upgrades associated with the Metro Green Line (referred to in the meeting as the hybrid locally preferred alternative) should be considered early in the next planning and budgeting cycle. Staff said the city has retained environmental and geotechnical consultants and counsel on the Green Line review and is preparing comments on the environmental impact report.

Commissioners asked that any draft letter be specific — for example, identifying the types of input the city will need during progressive design/build stages (public art, traffic and utility relocations, first‑/last‑mile connections) — and suggested the commission assemble proposed language and return it at the April meeting for final review. Commissioner Anderson agreed to draft a letter for the commission to edit at its next meeting; commissioners voted to continue the conversation and bring a draft back to the commission (roll call: Simpson Aye; Bajaj Aye; Anderson Aye; Nafisi Aye; Sowell Aye; Vice Chair Bealey Aye).

Separately, commissioners approved a joint meeting with the Budget & Finance Commission on April 28 at 6 p.m. to review the capital improvement program and budget status before the April 29 strategic‑planning session.
