District operations report: ADA upgrades, bleacher work, modular units and contract awards

Operations staff reported progress on several facilities projects and procurement actions during the March board meeting.
Thomas Barr, presenting the operations report, said a four-classroom addition at Lewisville Elementary continues with joist and decking installation scheduled to finish by the end of the week. He said Great Falls High bleacher installation remains on schedule but required additional wall painting because of the condition of surfaces once the old bleachers were removed.
Barr described completion of a three-part ADA project at Chester High School (softball cement, baseball cement and a bus path behind the middle school) and ongoing ADA compliance work at Lewisville High School stadium. At Lewisville the district added sidewalk on the visitor side and sidewalks connecting the highway to stadium access, which staff said will allow dedicated ADA parking and improved access to seating. Barr said the district will re-asphalt the road after finalizing stadium access work.
On modular classroom units: Barr said the district met with the vendor and was asked to add hurricane strap tie-downs and canopies to the units. He said the final phase of ADA compliance at Louisville High School is to finish parking design and add disability ramps for visitor bleachers to avoid replacing the visitor bleachers.
Barr said retrofitting friction systems from one school—s old bleachers to another saved the district money: components fitted Lewisville Middle School bleachers and reduced a projected replacement cost that had been estimated at roughly $217,000—to—220,000 down to a retrofit cost of $6,480. Barr also announced two RFP awards: B & K Pro Audio (sound systems and installation) and The Phoenix Group (painting), and noted The Phoenix Group was awarded work at a rate described in the meeting as 85 cents per square foot.
Trustees asked a few clarifying questions about motor retrofits and the status of designs submitted to SCDOT for a redesigned drop-off/stacking pattern near Louisville Elementary; Barr said the architecture firm had submitted required plans to SCDOT and OSF but staff had not yet received approvals.
No formal votes were taken on these projects during the operations report; staff said work will continue and bids remain under review where noted.
