Students honored: state Beta awards and Newberry High’s 100-year Cognia accreditation noted

The board recognized students who placed in the South Carolina Senior Beta Convention and accepted a Cognia representative’s presentation honoring Newberry High School’s 100 years of accreditation.
Board members recognized dozens of students from district high schools and Whitmire Community School for placements at the South Carolina Senior Beta Convention and noted those students who will advance to the national competition in June.
Trustees called students and sponsors forward for group photos and extended congratulations across multiple categories including woodworking, engineering, photography, Spanish academic tests, biomedical competitions and performing arts; the meeting packet named many students and sponsors by school.
Later in the meeting, Annette Melton, senior director with Cognia, presented a commemorative banner and certificate honoring Newberry High School’s 100 years of accreditation. Melton said Cognia recognized Newberry High’s century-long commitment to continuous improvement and presented a plaque citing the school’s accreditation history.
The recognitions were ceremonial and no formal board action was required. Board members invited students and families to remain for the meeting but excused those who wished to leave after acknowledgments.
