The commission received a report about recent volunteer work to clean cemetery markers and a proposal to create a special events board to support large community celebrations.
Commissioner Dunn reported that members of the historic board worked with Ravenwood High School students during "Senior Service Day" to clean about 20 to 25 gravestones at Crockett Gleaves Cemetery near Nashville Golf and Country Club. Dunn praised the students for learning appropriate cleaning methods from historic-board volunteers.
Nut graf: Commissioners say the city has multiple large events and anniversaries in coming months, and one commissioner asked colleagues to consider forming a special events board composed of members with relevant skills and contacts to help plan and manage significant civic celebrations.
Dunn said she, Charles Booth and Keisha Gooding met to discuss the 200th anniversary of Ravenwood and concluded that a board with specific event-planning skills could improve project coordination and reduce workload on a small group of volunteers. She said any proposal would be developed and presented at a future informational meeting.
Ending: Dunn asked colleagues to think about the proposal and indicated she would ask Charles Booth to draft an initial outline for discussion at the next informational meeting.
