Brentwood library to remodel Friends Gathering Room; schedules blood drive and candidate forums

Brentwood officials described a planned remodeling of the library's Friends Gathering Room and announced several upcoming public events to be held at the Brentwood Library.
Commissioner McMillan, the commission's library representative, told the board the library will begin a renovation of the Friends Gathering Room in the next two to three weeks, with intermittent closures expected over about six weeks as materials become available. She said improvements will include paint, new cabinets and flooring extensions into the room, relocation of shelving for the Art Lending Library, and space for games, puzzles and book-club materials.

McMillan said funds for the work will come from interest generated by the John P. Holt donation and that the library will not spend the endowment principal. She also said a space-planning committee is meeting regularly to work on longer-term projects, including redesign of the teen space funded from the same interest.
The library will host an American Red Cross blood drive on April 1, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.; donors are asked to register on the Red Cross site using sponsor code "City of Brentwood." On April 1 Preserve Brentwood will host a candidate debate at 6 p.m., and McMillan also noted a bipartisan, nonpartisan debate hosted by the League of Women Voters and a mountain biking group scheduled for April 2 at 6 p.m.
McMillan said the library will hold a city-sponsored Easter egg hunt on April 19 at 1 p.m., with the hunt beginning promptly at 1:30 p.m. and age-separated fields for safety. She asked residents to bring their own cameras and baskets.
Ending: The library board intends to proceed with the short-term remodel using endowment interest; residents can register for the blood drive on the Red Cross site and attend candidate forums and community events at the library in early April.
