Commission approves amended site plan for Mercury Park Blocks 4 and 5

The Planning Commission approved an amended site plan March 19 for Mercury Park Blocks 4 and 5, a multifamily project by the Murfreesboro Housing Authority that will provide 29 residential dwelling units in eight buildings on about 3.12 acres along South Hancock Street and Doctor Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.
Staff told the commission the revised plan replaces previously approved single-family and duplex unit types with two townhome-style buildings on the frontage, while keeping the overall unit count and parking unchanged. The amendment simplified sidewalk layout to better match the development’s program book and added drainage improvements to increase separation on site. Staff recommended approval subject to standard staff comments.
Thomas Rowe, executive director of the Murfreesboro Housing Authority, was in the audience and available for questions. Planning staff summarized elevations showing the previously approved elevations and the new proposed elevations so commissioners could compare unit frontage and interior-facing elevations.
A motion to approve the amended site plan, subject to all staff comments, passed unanimously with recorded aye votes from Ms. Sabalwater, Mr. Carroll, Vice Chair Halliburton, Mr. Harris, Mr. Prince, Mr. Wright and Chair Jones.
Next steps: the applicant will proceed with permitting and construction consistent with the approved amended site plan and staff comments.
