Murfreesboro Golf Commission members signaled support for testing sponsorships and limited advertising on golf-cart GPS screens and other non-intrusive platforms, with proceeds to be held by the Murfreesboro Sports Authority for facility enhancements.
Staff described a plan to work through the sports authority and a retained consultant whose role is to find corporate and local sponsors. Commission members said they want a cautious approach that avoids intrusive signage on the course; one member said they did not want to “sell the building” or the appearance of the golf course but were open to “dipping a toe in the water” with digital ads on cart screens or modest sponsor placements.
Staff used Segal Soccer Complex naming-rights discussions as an example: the sports authority is marketing larger facilities for multi-year deals and will bring back proposals tailored for golf that minimize on-course visual clutter. A commission participant noted an ordinance limits the types of advertising that are permissible on city property and said that any advertising would need to comply with that ordinance.
Commission consensus was to pursue sponsorships through the sports authority; staff said any funds raised for a facility would be designated to that facility’s enhancements. Commissioners asked staff to return with estimated revenue scenarios and proposed standards for placement and content before any contracts are accepted.
